More News

Hi Everyone,

I want to share more news with you.  Last week, I signed a new contract with my publisher for a short story titled Hitting Bottom.  I don't know if the title will remain the same, but the story is about the heroine's life falling apart and how she rebuilds her life.  Along the way, she reclaims her hero.

Also, the second book in the riverboat mysteries, Addiction, is being re-released with its new book cover this weekend.  I don't have the link yet, but as soon as I do I'll post it.  I just received the link, so I'm adding it now.  Smile!  Addiction at Amazon.

Now, I'm working on a new short story, which I'm hoping to get done in a couple of weeks.  It depends on life's situations, but fortunately, I belong to a goal oriented group and we challenge each other to reach a certain amount of words a day.  I don't always reach the goal, but I try.

Soon, I'll be blogging on several different promotional sites, and as they come up I'll be posting the links for you on Facebook and here.

I'm working on my website, and I have to admit it can use some work.  lol  If you go to my website just remember it's a work in progress.  http://www.skaymarshall.com.

My book, The Catalyst, focuses on family dynamics between the mother and her children.  There is danger and romance, but it's also about the misconceptions between family members.  It can now be found at Barnes and Noble.

See you next week with more news I hope.  Smile!  Having something new to tell you is exhilarating.

Have a great week everyone, and I'll see you next weekend.

Interview With Author, Christina Tetreault

Hello Everyone,

I want to introduce you to new Indie author, Christina Tetreault.  Her first book will be released September 23, and she wants to yell to the roof tops.  Grin!  I know I did when I finally became published.

Author Bio:

I wrote my first story with characters similar to those in the Sweet Valley Twins books at the age of 10 on my grandmother's manual typewriter. As I got older my stories and characters became more mature. During my freshman year at UMass Dartmouth, I read my first romance novel and fell in love with the genre. I have been writing contemporary romance ever since.

Today I live with my husband, three beautiful daughters and two dogs in Massachusetts. Whenever I have a free moment you'll find me either reading a romance novel or working on my most current story.

Q.   What prompted you to become a writer?
A.   For as long as I can remember I have been an avid reader.  While in elementary school I fell in love with books like The Sweet Valley Twins and The Babysitters Club.  When I was about 10 years old I tried writing my own story on my grandmother’s typewriter and from then on I wanted to be a writer.

Q.   How long did it take you to get published?
A.   I tried going the traditional route for perhaps three or four years.  Then I put all my writing on hold for a little while because there was a lot going on in my life.  I got serious about my writing again about three years ago and decided to give the self-publishing route a try.  My first book The Teacher’s Billionaire came out about year and half ago.  Since it did well I decided to stay with that method.  I am now releasing my fourth book in my series titled The Billionaire’s Best Friend.

Q.    How are you going to celebrate your upcoming release?
A.    To celebrate the release of my next book I am doing a release party on Facebook with my readers.

Q.    What is your favorite genre to read?  To write?
A.    I love to read almost any type of romance.  For now I write only contemporary romance but I have plans to try my hand at a paranormal romance as well as a historical at some point.

Q.     Have you already started a new story?  If not, do you have ideas for a new story?
A.    Yes, I have started the first book in my next series.  In addition to that I have ideas for a 5th book in my The Sherbrookes of Newport Series.

Q.     Do you have a favorite book?  A favorite author?
A.     I do not think I have one particular favorite book, but I do have a few that I have read several times.  Some of my favorite authors include Julia Quinn, Johanna Lindsey, Jessica Andersen, and Hannah Howell.

Q.     Do you have any hobbies besides reading?
A.     I spend a lot of time with my husband and three daughters.  In fact I am my daughter’s Daisy Troop leader.  I also enjoy exercising when I get the time.

Christina, I admire anyone who has a family, writes and works in exercise.  I'm wondering if you'll be able to work in the promotion that is required for your book.  Smile!

Despite a wonderful family, a career she loves, and great friends, a void has existed in Lauren McDonald's life ever since her best friend Callie married billionaire Dylan Talbot. Although they have remained close, Lauren and Callie now lead very different lives, that is until Lauren meets wealthy CEO Kevin Walsh. Lauren believes he could be the man who will help make her life whole again.  That is until the night Nathaniel Callahan, her high school sweetheart and the one man she has always loved, shows up.

Although Nate ended things with Lauren before heading off to The Naval Academy and his life with the Marines, he never stopped loving her. Now 15 years later he is back to correct the mistake he made all those years ago.

With Nate back in town, Lauren must decide between the man who promises her the world and the man who has the power to crush her heart again.

Excerpt:
All messages between her brain and muscles stopped. For that brief moment she could only relish the feel of his firm lips once again against hers after all this time. Then the paralysis wore off, and she placed both hands on his chest and shoved him hard. "That didn't happen."
Nate folded his arms across his chest. "Yeah, Lauren it did."
Her eyes traveled down his face to his arms where his biceps strained against his shirtsleeves. Back in high school he’d been fit and muscular, but the years since then had taken his unrefined body and sculpted it to perfection.
Don't get distracted. "I'm seeing Kevin."
He took a step closer. Despite the warning bells in her head, a flash of heat and excitement burst through her body.
            "Simple. Stop seeing him."
Nate's rich timber voice washed over her, triggering both desire and annoyance at the same time. Lauren latched onto the annoyance. "Kevin makes me happy." It's not a lie. He may not set her on fire, but they had fun together, and she felt safe with him. "Just because you're back changes nothing. I have a life, Nate. I didn't just sit around while you did your part saving the world."
Nate unfolded his arms then reached for her hand. "Lauren, give me a chance to explain. I—"
Rough calluses rubbed against her hand, a reminder of the different lives they had led since high school. "Nate, I'm glad you're home safe, but our relationship ended a long time ago. Maybe we can be friends again. That's it, though." Her last sentence came out almost as a whisper. If he'd come back into her life years ago, maybe her response would've been different. Now, though, too much time had passed.
Nate's jaw clenched, the only outward sign he felt anything. No big surprise there. Even as children he had been great at hiding his emotions. "I need some air.”
He disappeared out the front door onto the porch without his jacket. Ah, the wonderful Nathaniel Callahan avoidance. How many times had she seen that over the years? Oh well, at least it brought an end to their conversation.

Christina, if this excerpt is a sign of what is to come; you have left us in suspense and wanting more.  Smile!

It has been a delight to get to know you, Christina, and I wish you a huge success with your first book.  Here are buy links for The Billionaire's Best Friend:  Amazon Kobo and Apple

Have a great week everyone, and I'll see you next weekend.

Abducted Children

I had a different topic to write about this week, but it will have to wait for another time.  This week, I was watching Erin Burnett OutFront on CNN, and I can't get the topic out of my mind.  The news story was about abducted children.  It was shocking and horrific.

They were talking about very small children being abducted.  The suspect had hundreds of pornographic photos of little ones, and toddlers were being tortured.  On-line the suspect was talking about cooking and eating children.  Ms. Burnett said the suspect denied that he did anything like that, but admitted there were those who were doing it.

The sadness and disgust on Ms. Burnett's face when she said there were hundreds of thousands of predators out there preying on children, and some were actually doing this deed.  It wasn't a topic she wanted to talk about, nor do I.  It has to be talked about because we are the protector of those incapable of taking care of their selves.

If I were to catch one of these predators there would be no trial.  I do not say that lightly because I do not like killing anyone or anything, but there is a limit to my tolerance. In situations like the one I heard Ms. Burnett talk about I have reached it. These abusers deserve no mercy in my opinion.  They cannot be rehabilitated.

It's sad to say these people are all around us, and we have to be cautious.  We all hope, I hope our nation and the world has more good people than bad ones.  You have to be careful when you travel, on-line, in our neighborhoods and parks/playgrounds.  Be alert; be aware of anyone near your children. We love to post photos of our loved ones on Facebook, Twitter, and many other places on-line.  Don't do it, you're inviting the fox into the hen house without realizing it.  You can be found.

I'm sorry my blog is so distressful this weekend, but I couldn't help sending out a warning.  You may listen to a partial of this news item at http://outfront.blogs.cnn.com/2013/09/12/boston-man-plotted-to-eat-children/

Keep your children safe.

Sincerely,
Sandra K. Marshall

Predicting the Weather

It's September and it's supposed to be fall.  In August, when we usually have triple digit temperatures, we had fall temps.  This month, we're having 90+ degree weather.  Everyone is predicting a harsh winter, who knows what will happen.

Have you ever tried to forecast the weather?  As a kid I grew up in the country and everyone predicted the weather.  It amazed me how often the farmers were right.  They always knew when a storm was coming by looking at the sky. If the air became very still, or the wind started blowing hard they knew something was brewing.

Today, we have meteorologists with all kinds of scientific equipment who calculate the weather.  Are they more accurate than the farmers were years ago?  Well, there's the Farmer's Almanac (two different books- I didn't know this), and a lot of people swear by their predictions.

For me, it's impossible for anyone to be totally accurate, not even science.  There are just as many mistakes made by the scientific community as ordinary people make.  The farmers aren't scientific, but they had good judgment and good read the signs when something was about to happen.

Have a great week, and I'll see you next Sunday.

Best always,

New Book Cover for The Catalyst

Hi Everyone,

Life is complicated, and sometimes we have very little control over what happens to us.  Crimes go unsolved, criminals go unpunished and the innocent may be punished for something they didn't do.  All of this is the way life is, but we don't have to like it.

As an author, I have complete (once in a while they get away from me) control over my characters.  I can make them do anything I want.  My heroine and hero will find their HEA (happy ever after), but they suffer a lot before they reach that point.  It's just like in real life; there are a lot of ups and downs.  The villains in my novels will most definitely be caught and pay for their crimes, which is not always the way actual events happen.

My first book, The Catalyst is being re-released with a new cover.  I hope you like it.

Blurb for The Catalyst

Dark revelations and secret love lead to personal resurrection.

Carolyn Madison didn't kill her husband but didn't mourn him either. The rapist deserved to die, or at least she thought so. Beneath a myriad of family secrets, Carolyn drags the skeletons out of the closet and in the arms of her true love, learns to love again.

Walt Tollhouse has pined for Carolyn since she was a shy seventeen-year-old. Little did he know Robert Dubois would steal her away, and then destroy the beautiful spirit he still loved. Beneath the guise of clean-up man, the martial arts instructor never pushes his battered love but gives her silent support she deserves.
